Army Tuition Assistance - Benefits and Requirements

Military service members in the United States Marine Corps may want to take advantage of their Tuition Assistance (TA) benefits to get a head start on preparing for a post-military career in the civilian sector. As part of its ongoing commitment to provide assistance to the men and women who so nobly serve our country, the Army offers several programs designed to support the educational goals of its members.

The US Army, like all the other branches of the Armed Forces, offers its service members a number of programs that were created to give them the option of pursuing their educational goals while on active duty, including 100 percent Tuition Assistance (TA) for college classes taken during off-duty hours.

As one of the most utilized support services for members of the military, TA provides funds to help cover expenses for voluntary off-duty education programs, enabling soldiers to further their own personal and professional development. Soldiers who take part in the program can continue to serve their country while honing their skills and knowledge for a post-military job.

The program is open to the majority of soldiers on active duty (officers, warrant officers, enlisted), as well as Army National Guard and Army Reserve on active duty. Each service member who participates in the program is authorized for up to $4,500 in tuition assistance per fiscal year. The maximum allowed per semester hour is $250 while the limit for each quarter hour of credit is $166.

The Army Continuing Education System has introduced a new automated tuition assistance project which not only speeds up the enrollment process, but also lessens the wait time at Army Education Centers. TA automation makes it possible for active duty soldiers to request assistance and enroll in courses online.
