How to Hasten the Process of Research and Development of Alternative Energy

While it seems that all of us are aware of the urgency of putting alternate energy into implemental stage, there are some specific governmental initiatives needed that can hasten the research and development process of this program. The current scenario has more and more people and companies looking for government intervention in terns of not just initiatives and direct investment but also in the form of tax exemptions, financial rebates and other incentives, so that we make up on lost time, to switch over from fossil fuel dependence to more eco-friendly energy solutions.

Why do we need this switchover fast and now? There are more than one reason why the US government and its people should work hand in hand and put in all-out efforts to hasten the process of switching to green energy: it is more environment friendly and the extent of damage which we have already done by using fossil fuels would be significantly arrested; we can substantially reduce our dependence on imported oil, especially from hostile countries like Iran; finally, alternate energy is far less expensive than fossil fuels which incur gigantic costs for drilling and refining. This urgency has to be realized by one and all that the more we delay in the implementation of alternate energy, the more chances we have of facing environmental catastrophe. The most important point to remember is that our energy needs would continue to increase as we move on to the 21st century and if we continue to rely on 'foreign' support for our energy needs, we are throwing ourselves open to various vulnerabilities including security issues, in order to survive in future.
